On 29 June, Wild Nature Institute scientists Derek Lee and Monica Bond had a wonderful day at the headquarters of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), in Gland, Switzerland. We gave a lunchtime presentation to staff from IUCN and other international conservation organizations about the plight of giraffe, and described our research and conservation efforts for the Tall Ones in northern Tanzania. Derek is a member of IUCN's Giraffe and Okapi Specialist Group and it was fun to meet the energetic and enthusiastic staff in Switzerland. Special thanks to Andrea Athanas of the African Wildlife Foundation and Dena Cator of IUCN for organizing this talk!
