![]() The Wild Nature Institute's Derek Lee and Monica Bond and Giraffe Conservation Foundation's Dr. Julian Fennessy have published a new article about research, ecology, and conservation of giraffes. In our article in the summer issue of the Wildlife Professional, we outlined the threats facing giraffe populations throughout Africa, and described continent-wide efforts to study and protect these gentle giants. Despite being iconically African, the giraffe is largely understudied in the wild. And despite serious population declines, the giraffe remains low on the list of conservation priorities for many countries. We aim to change this by raising awareness about the plight of giraffes and stepping up research and conservation to safeguard the future for wild giraffes. Monica Bond is a Certified Wildlife Biologist and long-time member of The Wildlife Society, a national society for wildlife professionals established in the 1930s.
